a/c ?

hello , i have a 1998 dodge stratus and am hearing some kind of hissing
noise inside the car, near the heater and a/c controls. now my a/c doesn't
work and until this noise started it was ok ,but i had to recharge it last
summer. any ides what i should look for and how hard to tear the center
console and heater controls apart?  thanks Randy

The vacuum control has either fallen apart or a hose connector is
loose/broken  behind the heater control facia.    It opens up fairly
easily, but only if your carefull and have some confindent clues.
Otherwise send it in to a shop for diagnosis and repairs.
