well congrats on the winning bid
but the link did not work for me!

I know someone in the Chicago area that has a super clean '81 Westfalia and
he only wants around $5500 for it.
Are they really worth that much?

No.
They have gutless motors, a narrow track + high centre of gravity with
resultant handling problems in crosswinds,
and parts + labour are expensive + hard to find.

i.e. are vastly overrated and overpriced.
