First, I would like to say hello to everybody on this forum and second,
I would like to receive any opinions one might have on changing the
nature of car salespeople in the 21st century. A little history, to
show you where I'm coming from, then on with the question.
I've been involved with cars and energy sources most of my life.
Watched the Santa Barbara races out at the airport when they used to
run out there in the 60's, bought my first hot rod mag in 1963, did the
hot rod thing, the sports car thing, then offroad with VW's down the
baja penninsula before the paved road to La Paz exisited. Perhaps 30
years of car and driver/road and track reading and now I live in Carmel
where the Concours d' Elegance captures most peoples attention, once a
year.
The other aspect of cars I look at is how they are powered. I'm a
retired petroleum geologist/geophysicist and actually sell cars
locally. Selling cars has such a negative conotation, I have thought
about doing something else....but I believe I would be quiting, before
I finished what I began...mainly creating a less hostile way of buying
and selling cars. I've been selling for eight years...internet, front
line, closer, and trainer.
I'm looking to make the process easier on my customers. Any
constructive comments on how you want to be treated when purchasing a
car would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time

Be perfectly willing to let the customer test drive. I've looked at
many cars before where the dealer wouldn't allow a test drive without
them checking my credit history. It's all messed up.
Whenever the salesman is too pushy I always want to leave the car lot.
Try not to be pushy and talk about the car not about the customer.
