'01 Mitsubishi Eclipse alarm going off--how to stop?

I'm at work, and when I unlocked the door, the alarm went off. I don't
have a keychain for it (I got it used, didn't even know it had an
alarm). I'm assuming there's a chip in the key, but for some reason it
isn't being recognized (tried both regular key and valet key). If not,
a regular motion alarm just armed itself for the first time?

This is a 2001 Eclipse Spyder, btw.

So I have two questions:

1.) How can I turn this alarm off so I can drive it?
2.) How do I make it so it doesn't go off in the first place?

The manual to the car is at home. Don't wanna drive it honking and
flashing in the middle of the night. Or during the day, for that
matter. :)

(Yes, I just posted this to alt.autos.mitsubishi, but I just realized
I'm probably more likely to get an answer here sooner, and since I'm
kind of stuck here... heh..)

Well, if anybody's curious, here's how it got worked out. There's a
sensor in the door for the chip in the key, and then another sensor
in the trunk. Opening the door, setting the alarm, and then opening
the trunk turned the alarm off. After doing that twice, it fixed
itself. Not sure what was wrong. Maybe it was the cold...
