Question regarding availability of gas cap door opener for 1990 Grand Am

Hello...

After inheriting my mother's 1990 Pontiac Grand Am (and after my son's
driving it for tens of thousands of kilometers), the mechanism to
release the lock on the gas cap filler door has become very
cumbersome. It will now only open if the now (in the interior of the
car) handle-less cable is pulled using visegrips.

The question here (after being told by our local Pontiac dealer that
the parts are LONG out of stock and unavailable) is where would a
person purchase the entire assembly. To the best of my knowledge this
would include the release mechanism located under the gar cap door,
the cable that runs from this mechanism all the way into the interior,
any required mounting brackets and, of course, the handle that
operates this whole function.

I have searched ebay motors to no avail.

Thanks in advance for any assitance you may be able to offer...

Regards,

Doug

My GM dealer has no problem getting me such parts.  You may need to
find a new dealer.

Thanks for the reply. As we live in Manitoba, Canada...AND live 40
miles from the capital of Manitoba (Winnipeg), we are sort of stuck
with what we are offered. I will have to make a trip into the city and
source out some parts...

Thanks again...

No problem.  Are there any auto salvage yards up there?  You may
search some in New England and see if they will ship to you.  A quick
google search will bring up many auto salvage yards that deal online.

If you want to try sweet talking a MA (in the US) dealer into mailing
you your parts, you may do well to call Fraser Pontiac Buick GMC of
Salisbury, Massachusetts.  They've been great about getting me trivial
parts for vehicles from 1988 to 2002.

Good luck finding what you need on your trip into the city.
