A professional journalist wrote the book. As for "1st edition", that
would raise the book's status if there had been further editions in
the last 10 years, which I doubt. The price sounds not unreasonable,
however. It had slightly different titles in different countries (one
was "The New Villeneuve")
Re: first editions: Last week I found to my horror that my ancient
battered copy of "KIM" by Rudyard Kipling, that I have kicked around
in boxes, bookshelves, and various homes since I was a little kid, is
the 1st edition, 1901 ----- aagh, -- to me it was just an "old book"
that my grandfather gave me, and so familiar that I had never checked
the verso of the title page. But I try to console myself with the
calculation that the pleasure it's given me in years of relaxed
reading is greater than the money value it might have had if I'd kept
it locked up and pristine!
