As I said, the news announced that 2009 will be the end of the line for
Saturn. Somebody suggested that GM will continue. Many parts are not
interchangeable with other GM cars. Although it now seems that even the
parts that are may prove to be a problem as GM's continued existence is in
serious doubt even with a MASSIVE donation by Uncle Sam. Given the load that
GM carries just with their obligations to the UAW members insures that GM
can NEVER be even remotely close to profitable again. To make GM survivable
their vehicles would not be even remotely competitive in the auto market.
They will simply cost too much. It is a problem shared to a greater or
lesser degree by both Chrysler and Ford.  The UAW will not budge a penny on
labor contracts.  Even if the Feds gave GM a trillion dollars all it would
accomplish is to prolong the inevitable. The only answer is to take GM into
bankruptcy and sell off its assets at the world's largest garage sale.

It appears even the venerable Cadillac is destined to be an orphan.
