How much did your last traffic ticket cost you?

Fred Koschara - 16 Aug 2003 23:58 GMT If you get fined for a traffic violation, what does it cost? Obviously there's the fine itself. If you had to leave work to go to court, add the price of your lost time and wages. Don't forget to include your increased insurance premiums, which will probably add up, over several years, to much more than the fine itself. Do you know the total cost yet?
No. The hidden cost, which most Americans have never even thought of when dealing with traffic tickets, is you are losing your freedom. For years, the government has been telling the public that driving is a priviledge, not a right - and now most people believe that. Is it true, though?
When America was founded, our forefathers assumed the right to freely travel the public roads without question in the peaceful conduct of their own private affairs was such a fundamentally recognized right that they didn't need to explicitly list it in the Constitution. That right, however, is precisely what has been taken away: You must now first get permission from the government before you venture out in public.
Do you really think it's proper that such a fundamental part of our freedom has been taken away? Is that something you want to give up without a fight?
'Common wisdom' tells us that 'you can't fight City Hall' - the government is out of control. That attitude is most of the problem: The only way it can happen is if we let it - by not banding together into a unified voice to put our public servants into their place.
YOU can make a difference. Help us in the fight to protect our liberty by going to http://StopHighwayRobbery.com to join the battle, or to at least learn more about the issues involved. This domestic threat to our freedom is as dangerous, if not more so, than any external ones we have ever experienced in the past.

Dean M - 21 Aug 2003 04:04 GMT When America was founded, our forefathers assumed the right to WALK or travel by animal wherever they chose.
If you leave your home and WALK 3000 miles across the country, then back, the only way you'll intrude on anyone else's life is if you commit an illegal act upon them. Fine.
Now put a 16-year-old in a 3000 pound car. He can back over his little brother and end his life without leaving the property. No laws broken.
Cars have the potential to be the deadliest of weapons (statistically). Think of the extremes here. Let's do away with licensing, registration and insurance. Sorry, I ran the stop sign and crippled you. Oops, didn't mean it, won't happen again, I promise. Better yet, why stop and apologize? Just leave and avoid an ugly scene...
As far as I'm concerned, government has the car and gun laws exactly backward.

Guess I didn't try hard enough, that round...

It looks like the "drawings" in the animation were done by a blind 8-year-old with no arms. But for the gun toting nazi-nut that wanted to make guns easy to get and cars impossible to get, he's in left field playing with the daffidils(spelling?) and butterflies.
You, on the otherhand, I like. How can I help get his site killed?

Well, I have to hunt up the original message, and then find his site's webhost. Once I find that, I aim a complaint at the host, their upstream, and their upstgream's upstream.
Doesn't always work, but it's sometimes funny to see the reactions...

I don't particularlly care too much for IRC. To me, it's like the Fuddrucker's get togethers around here. It's something I stop by at and kinda fart aounda bit for a few minutes and maybe grab a burger, but its outside and you got all the cars and fries in front of ya. In IRC, it's just like that, except no cars, or fries.
If you do get any reactions outta their upstream, post it for us, will ya?

Gotta say that's the first time I've fallen for s**m in a long time.
No way do I want to see EITHER impossible to get. I just think decent people get their balls broken for wanting a gun, but when it comes to cars, all the gov't wants is your money for the plates. Too many seniles, nuts, drunks and druggies driving to suit me.
Do you really disagree?
PS: I might, in fact, BE "out in the field, playing", but it's more like right field <g>.

There is an explict intent to the design of each. I think you should have to go through all sorts of hell to get a gun. They are designed to KILL and that is all.
