hello group.. i have a 2002 SS 6 speed, and the oil change light came
on... i want to do the oil change myself and had a few questions...
after im done changing the oil, do i have to reset anything in the
computer to make the light turn off, or does it do it automatically? im
putting in mobil 1 synthetic, so is 5 quarts enough?

any pointers/tips?

thanks in advance!!!

yes look in your instruction book that came with the car under oil warning
light reset-I think you just hold the trip meter down and switch the car to
the on position but not starting it while pushing the trip reset button in
for about 15 seconds. then the light should flash and go  off.

Yeah, what he said.  Also, I really wouldn't wait for that light to
switch on before changing your oil next time.  Do it every 3K if you
are looking to keep your baby for a while.  If you are going to trade
in after just a few years you could maybe get by on what the oil life
monitoring system suggests.  Then it will be later owners that have to
worry.

thanks for both the replies!!!

i bought the car in late Oct 03'. and the dealership told me they had
done an oil change right before i bought it... funny thing is, ive only
put less than 1000 miles on it since i bought it, so it struck me odd
when the oil light came on...

thanks for the help though =)

This may come as a surprise but I've had my oil changed at a
dealership and they didn't bother resetting the oil life monitor
system.  This happened twice.  Now, it's a small thing.  They did a
proper job on the oil change and all.  I just reset the system myself
when they finish.
