Usually, it starts quickly. But sometimes, it takes up to 5 seconds or
so. Big problem? Or normal. Funny, it seems to have the issue over a
short period of time. Like Yesterday, I took my boy to McDonalds.
Parked the car, went in and ate came out, the car took about 5 seconds
to turn over. I always use premium gas - like a sucker

Probably a temp sensor.

Temp sensor - Sure, it's the temp sensor - what else could it be
besides the temp sensor...Uh, Karl...What and where is the temp
sensor? How much is a new one? Is it easy to fix? Can any idiot do it?
And yes, I am an idiot.

yea, could be. not sure where it is on an lt1. on an l98 its on the bottom
front of the intake base. if its toast the ecm doesnt know what the temp is.
makes it hard to start.  you might also check your fuel pressure and make
sure the fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump is holding. if not, it needs
to pump fuel back to the injectors before the car will start. if you just
shut it down then wait a few seconds will it start fast?? is it just after
it sets a while??

If I shut it down and start it right back up - It fires fast
If I shut it down, wait like a half hour - It takes a few seconds
If I shut it down for a long period of time (hours), it fires fast

Weird

The following information is presented subject to the disclaimer that
follows it.

Sounds like a leaking (or hanging) fuel injector. My 96 did this. Hook up a
fuel pressure guage to the Schraeder (sp?) valve on the fuel rail near the
firewall. It should hold pressure for quite some time (20 to 30 minutes)
after shutdown. On mine it did sometimes, but other times not, requiring
multiple repititions of the test. After I saw it drop in a hurry once, I
took the fuel rails off with the injectors still attached. By cycling the
key I was able to pressurize the injectors. Then I applied test leads
between the battery and the leads on each injector. All sprayed when power
was applied and had good cone-shaped patterns. One of them however, didn't
stop spraying when power was removed. This was a BAD THING. When this
occurred, I would get the same result as you - immediate restart OK, because
the fuel hadn't all leaked into the cylinder yet. 10-15 minute wait to
restart no good, because all the fuel was in the cylinder, essentially a
flooded engine. 30+ minutes OK, all fuel evaporated. I replaced the
injectors with 24 pound Ford MotorSport injectors from Summit Racing and the
problem went away.

Within six months of all this I had the opportunity to trade for a 2003 Z06
and did. The 96 was running fine until the day I traded it.

Warning and Disclaimer (especially because in an earlier post you stated
that you were an idiot): Gas is flammable, and batteries and electricity
make sparks. Gas, betteries, and electricity should only be used by a
competent technician. If anyone does any of the thing I have listed above,
they do so at their own risk. This post outlines my experience - your car
may or may not have the same problem.

yup. my 85 had the same prob. same fix. my fpr was leaking also, so i
changed that. still had the prob but not as bad. injectors cured it. xlnt

I had the same problem after I had replaced the water pump.  Seems water
leaking from the water pump flowed into the "distributorless Ignition"
caused permanent damage.  Had to replace the 1993 distributor...
