So, i've got the car that i've always wanted..but I need to replace
belts and original equipment is next to impossible and expensive to
find. Easy alternative????
I've seen the 'universal fit' belts sold by Ecklers, Corvette America,
etc, but they seem to only sell lapbelts. I'm finding it hard to
believe that I can't seem to find a lap AND shoulder belt.
Can somebody point me in a direction of where i could find me some
inexpensive replacement belts that include shoulder belt. I have a
1968 and the interior is blue.
Thank you all in advance for your help.

Let me know when you find these "inexpensive" replacements. Why do you
want belts that include the shoulder harness? If you really want to
wear that part, there is a seperate shoulder harness belt available that
was original equipment in 68 (my car came with them).

Good idea...I'll do that. I wonder why people start a thread and then
disappear? I asked the guy a question and he never answered. I see
that happen often here...people start a topic asking for advice about
something and then they vanish. I don't get it.

I guess the slow response would have to do with a super busy weekend!
Diode, here is my reply.
To answer your question as to why I want the shoulder belts, is it not
a requirement by law that I have and use the shoulder belts if the car
came so equiped?
Secondly, although a lapbelt will/may prevent me from becoming a
projectile should I get into an accident, it certainly won't prevent
me/reduce the risk of a severe concussion.....so shoulder belts would
be good.
At the risk of repeating myself, I find it very strange that Ecklers
sells non-original equipment 'universal fit' lap belts (with no
shoulder belts at all) for C3 Corvettes, yet they inform me that if my
car came equiped with shoulder belts (didn't they all?) that it would
be required by law....so why even sell these lapbelts if they are not
a suitable replacement.
Certainly if these non-original equipment universal fit lapbelts
exist, I gotta be able to find a unit that also has shoulder belts.

No, in 68 shoulder belts were not required. As a matter of fact, in 68
shoulder belts came standard on the coupe and as an option on the
roadster...or the other way around, I don't remember which. Mine has
them, and they are a completely separate belt. They are not the
"combined" belt that you are used to seeing. There's 2 different
buckles, one for the lap belt and one for the shoulder belt.

Very expensive, but supposed to be the best in the market. Apparently
they didn't have the material for the person that started this thread
though. I suggested them early on.

Maybe Diode can sell you a set,he doesn't seem to use them........''I was
left sitting in the street holding the
steering wheel in one hand and the shifter in the other while the car took
off down the road. Well, that's what it felt like anyway.''see the ''raped
ape'' thread.
Just kidding you Diode, I found a set for my 76 on Ebay
and they were in good shape.Could be a cheaper solution than the new repro
stuff that is out there.

Thanks Donald. I'll keep a watch. I'm a little leery though, I got
some "NOS" parts for my Triumph on eBay that turned out to be cheap
repros made in Taiwan. I never did find out if the original poster was
aware that the shoulder belts for 68 were completely separate belts and
not attached in any way to the lap belt. BTW, I DO wear the lap belt
when I drive the car :o)

'My belts were original seat belts proper date tags as well.Yeah some people
will dump off cheapo stuff through Ebay, but one must look and ask before
bidding/buying.Right now I must have bought 10 items for my 76 Stingray,all
were what was advertised New Old Stock, and not new repro parts.
As for your wearing the belts,I don't even doubt that you were them,I was
just punning.....;op
