Hi all, I have never posted in this group before. But I thought now
would be the time to.
I have been looking for a nice sports car to have fun in for about a
year. Over that period of time, I never considered the corvette. My
mindset was that it was more than I could afford. I also wanted to
keep my Honda Accord.
I decided a few months ago that since my wife and I will have kids in
about 2 or 3 years (or trying to have kids by then) that my Accord
will be sold anyway to pay for a (gasp) mini van!
So I figured I might as well have as much fun as I can in this 2 or 3
year span, and am willing to part with my much beloved and much
dependable Honda. My price range for a corvette is $9,000 to $10,000.
A good friend of mine is big into vettes and owns a 97. He told me it
would not be crazy to think I wcould get an early 90s model for that
price. He warned me of the 1984 and suggested I look for anything
above 1987 since I am probably not going to work on the car myself. So
I assume I am looking for a vette between 87 and 93-ish for $10,000 or
less.
What I would like to know is this; what are some standard, typical,
walk-around, tire-kicks I should perform while looking for a vette?
Another friend of mine is into Miatas, and has shown me tons of
websites that offer a "checklist" when shopping for a miata. I assume
there are such beasts on the net for the covette as well...?
Thanks in advance. Any tips and info you can provide me would be
wonderful!
thanks

As mentioned in another response, there is a checklist to use when looking
at cars. If you know what to look for, you can find some really nice cars
for a lot less than you'd think. I just bought a real sweet 96 for $12k.
Good luck and when you do find "the car", you'll find a way to keep it and
get the grocery getter too.

ME: Stay away from the 4 plus 3 transmission . Get a 1990 or newer and
get the 6 speed....nice gearbox. Go to www.corvetteforum.com and ask
questions in the C4 forum. Youll get a ton of useful info.
