Hey Stingray!
I'm not trolling but I'm not a lurker either. I had a difference at work
today with the "Corvette Expert" we have. He says it's impossible.
In 1977 or 1978 I was working as a carry-out boy at a grocery store. One
day I carried groceries for a lady with a brand new corvette. Her
husband, she said, worked for the dealership. It still had the sticker
in the window, and according to the sticker it had a 6-cylinder eng. Is
my memory fantasizing? Could it have been ordered? I can't find anything
about a production 6-cylinder after 1955.

Yea, maybe a customer of the dealership had a catastrophic engine
failure and the dealer offered to pull the factory engine from this '77
and dropped in a 6 - though I'd think it would be a major undertaking to
mate up all the v-8 stuff to the 6.

I'd be doubtful such a car originated from a dealership tho.

No Way GM would allow a dealer to to that.....

AND I seriously doubt a straight 6 would fit anyway

The only engine options for those years were a L48 or L82 engine. both were
350 CI.

Any chance the dealer did a little modification to the window sticker to try
to fool the insurance company into a lower rate ? But then the VIN number
would mess that attempt up. Or if the guy worked at the dealer, maybe he had
some really good contacts and you missed the "1" on the V16 <g>

Well, despite the mild flames, I do remember the woman and I agreeing
that we couldn't imagine why someone would order a 'vette with a six.

Could it have been ordered?

Um, no.

Probably confused the car with a Jag.

Hi AL! Sorry, but I've been out of town for a l-on-n-n-n-g weekend and just
got back. Your question has already been answered a number of times and as
Les Benn said, "The only engine options for those years were a L48 or L82
engine. both were 350 CI."

6 cyclinders were only in the 53 & 54 vettes, 55 was the first year with an 8 -
my cousin is an NCRS judge and has a 55 for that reason, and a 2 time grand
national at that!   someone must of been playing a joke with the sticker...???

Partially true - 6 cylinders were still available in '55.
