The Fan Clutch failed (was making a screeching noise) on my 78
Corvette.
Never had any cooling problem.
Replaced the clutch with one from Hayden.
The Hayden clutch engages a lot sooner (I can hear the roar of the
fan) compared to the original clutch.
I noticed that there is a circular bimetallic spring on the clutch;
its position can be adjusted.
Anyone tried to adjust the set point of the clutch ???

No... you can't adjust it.
And the reason you are noticing the extra roar is probably
because you now have a properly functioning fan clutch... :-)
