Hi again and thanks for reading this.

I am the guy that posted "buying a 1977 Vette- Help" a few days ago.
Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. I am test driving the vehicle
Monday.

Another question I have is what do you 'do it yourselfers" use to lift
your vette for oil changes, maintenance etc..
I have a set of cheap steel ramps but know for a fact that the spoiler
or front bumper is going to hit the ramp long before the front tire gets to
it as the vehicle is so low to the ground. I am a welder by trade and could
build a longer sloping set of ramps, but before I do that I would like to
see what you folks use. Thanks for any responses or url web sites that may
explain what to build or buy. Jim

Hi Jim,
I have an 82 collectors edition, as well as a 95 convertable, and I just use
the ramps... I duct tape them to the concrete floor in my garage, it helps.
its a pain, isn't it??!!
nice to look at, great to drive, but working on them is such a pain!

As someone else said Rhino ramps will work ...and there is no reason
in the world that you could not make your own set...    Back in my
younger days I had major problems lifting my 79 up (equipted with the
pace car spoilers) I could not even get a floor jack under the front..

I did make my own ramp ...

Forget the duct tape...I just drilled a few holes about 2 " deep in my
garage floor and dropped two metal (bench dogs) into the holes to hold
my ramps from moving ...quick and easy .

Today I use a lift...

IF you join a Corvette club (and you should) you will find the members

of "Loaner" tools... ranging from  small tools like the PLASTIC
adapter to grease the inner rear wheel bearings etc... to engine
cranes etc...

Not sure why the other obvious choice (to me) has not been mentioned: I
use an inexpensive floor jack and pair of jack stands. Sure, it might
take a couple of minutes more than just driving up the ramps, but I
don't have to worry about them sliding around nor the front spoiler
scraping.
Has worked for me for the past 2 years.

I use both, depending.  If I'm just going under to tighten up the the
exhaust pipe nuts (monthly task), I use the Rhino ramps.  I don't have a
problem with them slipping in the driveway.  I don't know if other
brands have them, but Rhino's have soft rubber pads in the front to
prevent slipping.  If I'm pulling a trailing arm or a rear, than I'm
going to put it up on stands.  All 3 items (ramps, hydraulic floor jack
& jack stands) are must-haves for the serious weekend mechanic.  Is
there any such thing as a small pneumatic floor jack?
