91 L98 Stalling Running Rich

Have a '91 Vette L98 6 speed, 80k stock.  Problem is recent within the
last 4 weeks, but is this:  The car runs rich and stalls on occasion.
If I put the AC on the idle will rev up and down a few hundred rpm at
idle and stall occasionally.  After it has stalled, it won't start back
up unless I turn it off for a few minutes.  The car also stalls
intermittently without the AC, so I don't think the AC has anything to
do with it, just that the AC accentuates the problem I'm having.  One
thing I notice if I let off the gas in any gear, the car pulls back on
me and jerks a little bit back and forth... On acceleration the car
seems fine.  I had brought it into a mechanic and the only thing he
could find wrong with it was the throttle body was dirty and never been
cleaned... so he cleaned that and it definitely runs smoother than it
did, but hasn't solved the stalling problem.  He checked the fuel
pressure regulator, cap, rotor, fuel injectors, plugs, etc... computer
shows no error codes.  Any ideas as to where to look would be
appreciated.  Thanks.

Check to see if you have a plugged exhaust system.  80K is a bit early
for the pre-cats or cats to be burned up, but it can happen, and the
glaring warning is the problem of running rich without an explanation.

Stalls...runs rich...fuel flow is good...have to wait a few minutes to
get it restarted...really sounds like plugged cats.

Thanks for the reply, I'll have to check the cats.  I have noticed
recently that the dash lights are constantly flickering indicating a
voltage problem of some sort.  The alternator seems to put out good
voltage and is only about a year old.  One thing that stands out is that
I have had to jump the battery a few times during the last 7 months or
so, even though the battery is about 2 years old.  I'm wondering if
maybe this problem is related to a bad ground in the battery?  I'm going
to swap it with another battery I have just to test this theory.  At
this stage it's a lot of trial and error.  Thanks for the reply.

Eric, I've learned from cold, hard experience that it pays to swap out
the alternator and the battery together (if money allows...that's
where the cold and hard part comes in).  Have both of them checked, at
least.
