One of you guys MUST have a smog pump that you took off and threw in the
parts bin. All I need is the diverter valve from it. Come on
guys...I'm getting desperate here. I can't find one of these friggin
things anywhere.

Is there a chance it can be fixed with another valve that don't work or do
you not have one at all?

Doesn't look like it, Dad. The diaphragm end is sealed in a way that
can't be taken apart without destroying it, and I'm pretty damn good at
carefully taking things apart that weren't meant to come apart. The
diaphragm definitely has a leak. The valve end is swaged. I can get
that end apart with careful use of a Dremel tool. The seal on the valve
also is not good, but even if I take that end apart I can't get a
replacement seal. So, it seems like I need a complete valve that works.
For now, I disconnected the output of the pump from the valve in such
a way that you can't tell. I also plugged the ports on the valve
internally so air can't get drawn into the exhaust manifolds. It
stopped the backfiring for now and you can't tell by looking that it's
not functioning. I would like to have it working properly though. I'm
also a bit concerned about the tubes in the manifolds overheating.

Hey Diode,
Have you put your order into the usual vette salvage places. I had great
luck getting used parts that aren't being reproduced yet for my C4. I
normally call Dino at CorvetteSalvage and even if they don't have it they
put a lookout for it. From time to time I check with them and they usually
turn up with it. They specialize in C4s but there are several folks that
only deal with C3s. Here's a link to one that deals in all makes.

Another thought that I had was that most smog equipment from that era was
similar, could you pilfer one from an Impala or a Camaro of the same year.
I've had to do this with my 72 Lincoln. Uses similar parts to big Fords.
Hope this helps

One other possibility is to list it in Corvette Forum.

in the direction of hard to find parts.

Thanks Rob, I'll check it out. BTW, you're correct...the same part
number was used on all the 327 motors including Cameros, Impalas, etc.
The only concern I would have with a salvage part is that it might have
the same problem as the valve I have now. They prolly all wear out the
same way.
