There has been a thread recently on AMSOIL.

What are the thoughts of Royal Purple.  Would there be any dramatic difference
in using that synthetic over Mobil 1 ?

Cheers

Mobil one works....and is not expensive.

personally I see no good reason to even think about using another
brand synhtetic oil in my Corvette..

Just my own personal opinion...

My two cents ?

Mobil one has been around the longest and has by far the most experience
with the number of cars running it. GM,  Bentley and others all recommend it
and I have never seen a test report comparing it to Amsoil or any other oil
that has much difference in the end result. So why fix something that is not
broken ?  I ran Mobile 1 from day one in my old 79 RX7 and ran it hard, when
it needed a new rotor seal at 367,000 miles the place that did the rebuild
said it looked more like a engine with 50K miles. That was good enough for
me, every car since has been Mobile One with no problems.
My 2 cents on the issue.

Tedd, if I may AMSIOL pioneered the synthetic lubricants industry for cars
and trucks with the introduction of the worlds first 100% synthetic API rated
motor oil way back in 1972.  Mobil tried to copy AMSOIL's lead several years
later.

Well Tedd, I have the test results you have not seen yet. Here you go -

High Temperature/High Shear (ASTM D-4683)

The High Temperature/High Shear Test measures a lubricant's viscosity under
severe high temperature and shear conditions that resemble highly-loaded
journal bearings in fired internal combustion engines.  In order to prevent
bearing wear, it is important for a lubricant to maintain its protective
viscosity
under severe operating conditions.  The minimum High Temperature/High Shear
viscosity for a 30 weight oil is 2.9 cP. As shown in the graph, AMSOIL
Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil surpasses this minimum standard and displayed the
highest High Temperature/High Shear viscosity in the group.
The superior viscosity retention of AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil in
the face of severe temperature and shear conditions allows it to provide
continuous, unsurpassed protection for engine bearings, extending equipment
life and preventing wear.

                                      10W-30 Viscosity

AMSOIL

     March 2003 test results

I have many other test results I can snail mail you if you would like.  There
are significant differences amongst the differing synthetic oils on the market,
with some, (like AMSOIL), offering definite performance and cost savings over
other brands.

Flym flam man. Do you still have your horse and wagon for the circuit? I
looking for some elixir for my miasma.

Thirty two years and it hasn't caught on yet, better stick with the patent
medicine.

Greenwood racing Vettes, Higgins Vette Mechanics, and others of that ilk use
AMSoil exclusively.

I've changed, will not go back to Mobil 1.

Well thanks for the corrections as I always thought Mobil 1 came out first.
So my error !  Of  course I might have gotten the wrong info as when Mobile
1 came out, I lived about a mile from Mobil's HQ in Fairfax, VA so the news
was all over the news about Mobile 1 as first synthetic.
I have not done tons of searching for comparisons of the two oils, the
only ones I found were comparing synthetic to standard oils. If you have a
URL for the "High Temperature/High Shear (ASTM D-4683)" I would be
interested in seeing it.
Thanks for the update!

What?? OMG....no claims of it being the oil used by MBB, or Boeing?
OK..in all fairness, MBB technically no longer exists, now its Airbuss, but
the funny thing is, I dont remember 55 gallon drums of Amsoil sitting in the
repair hangers in Finkenverder when I worked there with MBB....

 AMSOIL doesn't manufacture aviation oils.

With the test results I have seen, I personally feel that Mobil 1 is a
superior product to RP.  With all due respect to RP, they are a newbie in the
synthetic lubricants industry compared to AMSOIL or Mobil 1.
