Thanks for all the info on slotted/drilled brakes! I take delivery of
my '05 in about 2 weeks and am curious regarding ideas/advice about
"braking-in" new brakes. I've heard that the manual recommends no heavy
brake usage during the initial break-in period for the car. I'm assuming
that is probably sufficient. However, I have had people refer me to the Baer
method. My car comes with the Z51 package and I don't know if either method
is better or if there are other methods people recommend.

Also, this is truly the first new car I have to break-in. Any specific
recommendations regarding this. I have to drive it about 500 miles to get
home...is this sufficient? I fully realize the can-of-worms I'm probably
opening with this question, but I want to make sure I do things right.

Mucho Gracias,

Break in is simple, don't pull it hard and don't stop it hard. The only
other thing I do is vary the speed on a long trip like you will be doing.

Good luck,

Dad's varying speed approach works for what I prefer to call the
"run-in" of all the driveline and accessory systems on a new machine.
Good brakes start with properly seated tires. The easy
breaking/cornering/acceleration approach lets new tire beads seat
properly before they are stressed with 'all-out' loads.  You'll avoid a
lot of future brake disk headaches by achieving proper tire bead seating
before you start any disk seasoning.  A couple of short cool-off stops
early in that 500 mile run will cycle system and tire temperatures and
speed the run-in process. Enjoy the ride, and for now, smell the flowers
and the leather!

Happy Halloween everyone!  Mike.....
