93 Help...PKE Stopped Working

It warmed up earlier this week so I washed my Vette. I didn't notice it for
a couple of days, then it hit me, no honk when I walk away from the car.

The button on the key fob works, the button in the car works, just not the
automatic lock when I move away from the car.

So, what could have happened? How do I get it working?

Thanks,

You might have accidentally turned the automatic function off.  To cycle
between on and off, hold the door button down continuously until the lock
cycle.

Thanks for the info...I'll give it a shot.

the battery in the remote might be dead

I don't think that's the problem, I installed a new battery 3 months ago.

i thought that too. my pke stopped working. replaced the battery. worked for
a month or so. took it apart, bent the prongs that contact the battery to
the circuit out a little, reinserted the battery, and it works now.

does the arming sequence (insert key, turn to on but don't start, hold door
open button down) do anything? try another remote to see if it's a remote
problem. on my wife's 96, we wound up replacing the pke module, which is
buried behind the dash, and a door servo. cost about 1200 a few years ago.

If the battery wasn't in right or it was dead, it wouldn't open the hatch
or unlock the doors, but it does.

I tried this and nothing happened. I held the button almost a minute, still
nothing. Does that mean the PKE unit has gone bad???

I've had problems with my '93 after washing. The antenna for the PKE is
in the drivers door. I had a damaged weather strip on that door, and
after washing, the PKE would not work for several hours. It eventually
dried out, and started working again. I replaced the weather strip, and
haven't had any problems since.

Hope this helps....

Jim

Now that's a thought. As I recall, it stopped working right after a wash.
It's been 5 days though, should have dried by now. :(

well, i'd try another remote first to try to narrow it down.
