Change stock radio to Bose

I have a 1995 with the stock cassette radio and stock speakers, before I go
and rip it out and go with an aftermarket CD player I was wondering what all
would be involved with changing everything over to a stock Bose system
instead.  I'm guessing I'd need the Bose in dash CD head, the Bose speakers,
but what else would be involved, and would everything just plug in to the
stock harnesses?  I'd really like to keep everything in the interior looking
stock.

I'm not sure about putting a Bose CD player in, but if you go after-market,
there is one thing you need to look out for.  If you take the Bose system
out, you will get a SYS warning occasionally on you display.  Your owners
manual will tell you it is an electrical fault.  It is caused by the
computer that adjusts your LCD display for varying light conditions also
adjusts the brightness on your radio display.  There is a GM tech bulletin
that tells how to trick this circuit.  It was put out in 93.  Thanks by the
way to everyone that helped me with this problem in my car last year.

Thanks for the heads up, I never noticed that before but the standard
cassette player dims with the interior lights also.
So nobody has ever tried to replace the stock cassette player with the Bose
CD player??  Does anyone have any idea where I might find out if or how
they're interchangeable?

It's generally the other way around, people trying to get rid of the Bose
after they have a speaker amp failure or just don't prefer the Bose.

I don't know if a non-Bose equipped car has the harnesses for all the amps,
in dash head, and behind the seat receiver unit.

Yeah, from what I've been reading it seems everyone wants to get rid of the Bose systems, Cd player won't play CDR's, MP3's and is just outdated crap.  Ok, so I go with an after market system, I was reading the tech bulletin and it looks complicated, having to wire in resistors or capacitors or something, I'm electrically retarded.  If I take it to some place to have a CD player installed is this a common thing the installer kid is gonna know how to remedy?  Or is it really simple enough that I can do it myself?

Is having a CD player the ultimate goal here?  If so, do as I did in
my 94 and throw a Sony RF changer in the back, plug it in, and be down
the road.  It is an easy install, but there is really no good place to
put the unit.  I ended up just mounting it to the back deck. IIRC,
everything you need to wire to is under the door behind the right
seat. (switched power and antenna).

You know I think that's what I'm going to end up doing.  Maybe end up
sticking it in there with the jack storage compartment with enough wire to
pull it outta the way if I ever need the jack.  Dou you get alot of
interference using RF?

I did not notice any at all.   It is tough to find a decent one that
will fit in the storage compartment, and still be accessible to
load/unload.

This is what I had (link to crutchfield) http://tinyurl.com/63vfm

I will make you a smokin' deal.  My 2004 ZO6 is going into the shop tomorrow
to remove the Bose unit and put in a Pioneer w/ XM radio.

It has the AM/FM CD unit w/ changer inputs.  Looks nice.  Lots of buttons.
But it doesn't have built in XM radio like I want.  I was going to keep the
speakers, but the radio shop wants to change them out.  The speakers are two
small units in the back and a larger woofer and separate tweeters in the
front.  Six total.

Let me know if you're interested.

Is anything the same for his 96?  I know the head is different in my
2000 v. my 1994.
