Dood day folks,

I've been bitten by the corvette bug and after owning one for
almost a year (1977 Ontario orange coupe), doing restorations and getting up
to show room condition, I want to buy another one.
I'm going to keep the one I presently have.
My question is after watching Barrett and Jackson on TV a few weeks ago
is ........where in hell can I find a reasonably good shape c1 or c2 for
around 30 grand canadian?
    .... I don't want to buy for resale...but just enjoy it...restore
it...and drive it on Sunny days.
I look at E:bay and they are going for one hell of a price...anything that
is reasonable...is junk by what the pics show.
Going to be in the market this comming summer so if you have a few
specialty car sales places that I could look at, I would sure appreciate a
(canadian) link.  Thanks...Jim

Calm down and hang on.  Most are waiting for B-J to clear the air so that
prices can come back down.  B-J runs the prices so astronomical, no one can
get a good deal.

Jim, you should be able to find a reasonable driver... C1 or C2 for that
kind of money. However, you might want to look south of the border as a
lot of the folks up here have vastly inflated ideas of what their cars
are worth ... BJ syndrome? partially but b) more importantly many of the
cars available were purchased during the days of a buck and a half
Canuck for one Yankee... thus they paid more in coloured money and want
it back.

Or you can hope for what I always look for (but have never found)...  a
little old lady who bought a '53 in '53, drove 1000 miles a year up
until last year but now only starts it twice a month and backs it out of
the garage...  "Sonny, I only paid $3500 for this new and you want to
give me all my money back? Sign here!"

Hi again...I have been searching Canadian sites and I see that this guy
is absolutely nuts about his price...The car is in Edmonton... he has to be
dreaming to get this price?

http://www.canadatrader.com/result/detailinfo.aspx?adID=6738746&pgno=1

With a budget of about 30 grand I would be afraid to call this guy for
fear of being laughed at and hung up on. The add states it is appraised at
81 thousand. I sure would like to know who would appraise this vehicle for
that price.. this guy obviously has watched Barret Jackson...or his
appraiser sure as hell has.  Yup...I'm going to wait a while and keep
researching... Jim

Sorry Dad, I wasn't clear ...'60  or even a '59 290HP
'Nother car that'd be worth the change (plus a whole, whole bunch) would
be the '59 show piece I keep seeing diecast models of...looks more C2.
Would like to see the actual car. Is there one?

No need to be sorry, was just clarifying what was said.

There is a '57 within a mile of me that he is trying to sell. Lots of
roomers as to what is happening but as far as I know it's still for sale. I
used to ride in it when the first owner had it, we both had '57s but mine
was not injected. He sold it when he went into service. Bought it back when
he returned and proceeded to hot rod it but never let the original parts out
of his possession and was always going to restore it. In 1997 the present
owner finished it and started it on a tour of the Corvette shows all over
the country. It has them all, triple crown, spinner, etc, NCRS including the
performance award. Includes a signed picture of him and the car with the
widow Arkus-Duntov (impressive lady) at Route 66 raceway in Joliet. Small
fuel injection, black and one nice machine, asking price $100,000 +. It is
trailered everywhere and I always think it's to bad it is so nice you can't
drive it.

   Say dad,

LOL (No offense in saying this but find this kind of funny talking to
'Dad" as mine passed when I was 11 ...some 35 yrs ago)....anyways....
Dad.......in your very and quite obvious wisdom. What is your take on
the sale of that '59 vette I was looking at? If you have any tips I
certainly will print them out for future reference...Ie: what to look for in
a C1?
I think I have the basic knowledge of what to look for but any tips from a
guru such as yourself would be greatly appreciated.
I am going to treat this vintage sale no different than my
house...I'll pay for and bring along my OWN appraiser such as we had a house
inspector look at our home.....Damned car looks as though it's going to cost
a lot of money.. I'd sell my left nut for a Red with white C1
though........Jim

I don't think of myself as a guru, just like to talk about the cars I grew
up with. They were new then, it's alot different trying to buy one that is
almost 50 years old. I sold my 59 to finish college, red with red interior
and white top. My opinion of the '59 for sale is that it looked great, but
then I'm partial to that color combination. I just finished a friends 69
that also has a red 62 but he will never part with that car.

Have you tried Ebay, I think they stopped the sale of body parts though.
