Since I don't own a vette yet (I'm toying with the idea) I read a
reply that mentioned that new C6's had " a "G" meter in the
HUD " which I don't understand. Please explain for a non-vette owner
(wannabe maybe). thanks.

G Meter - shows a unit of inertial force on a body that is subjected
to rapid acceleration or gravity, equal to 32 ft. per second per
second at sea level; also written g-force
HUD - Heads up display. Projects or "floats" an image of select
instrumentation on the windshield, so you do not have to take your
eyes off the road as you would to look at the dash.

I went for a ride in a Russian Mig L-39 once and doing the big vertical
loop, we hiy 4+ Gs
That was after a bunch of combat maneuvers and the G forces have a
cumulative affect on the human body.
I started to black out, as I have low blood pressure.
Coolest thing I ever did, though.
I only had to pay for the kerosene.
Cheep thrill ;)

Just tells you how many G's you are pulling... not quite as many as a
Fighter Pilot pulls I'm sure....but what the hey...
Personally its a gimmick that I can live without...hade my A$$
calibrated way back in the late 50's to measure the G forces my cars
pulled..... lol...

The one I was talking about was the one that estimates how many g strings
you can collect by cursing the beach road.
Bob, You will defiantly need it recalibrated in a C5 or C6 with the new
sticky Supercar tires. Wrinkles throw it off about 16 1/2% also.

Lol.... Wrinkles I have...( because I traveled East into the sun
every morning and West into the sun again every afternoon before I
retired...)
But I found out long ago that they do not effect how my wrinkle free
rear preceives G Forces....lol...
You do make a good point however...the cars I drove in the late 50's
and thru college in the early 60's ( Austin Healey, MG TD and a 55
Chevy ... really can not compare to todays cars... looking back I
have to say...what G forces...

I think those wrinkles were responsible for me not realizing just how fast
this thing is. If you really get on it and not break it loose the
acceleration is somewhat like I used to feel in D gas class in the middle
60s although I doubt I could pull a 11.41 which was my best ever. Until
these 285-35x19s get a little cheaper I don't think I'll be breaking it
loose very often. I have seen the "G" meter over .8 in the Smokies on I40 a
few times and it may have gone higher. One thing I don't do is look at some
stupid meter when you're into a hard corner. Back when I was driving the '61
down that way it was allot easier to scare the hell out of me than it is in
today's Corvette.

The "G" meter is located under the center console and it will be
displayed on the Head Up Display (HUD). The "G" is in freerence to
gravity and how much you are pulling around corners. I do not think is
is set for fore and aft and it only reads lateral forces.

John's got it right -- this is a measure of lateral 'g' The force
shoving you into the seat bolsters during a turn. It's the figure
that Road and Track gets during skidpad tests. The 'g' we talk
about during a loop or dive recovery in an airplane is "normal g"
which pushes you downward in the seat and aggreviates piles.
Paul.
