I test drove a C5 coupe and was very surprised at the interior noise level
at freeway speeds.  Seems to be coming from the rear.  Can dynamat help?
Anyone have any ideas?

If it had an aftermarket exhaust on it that could cause a weird sound.
Mine with stock exhaust has no noticeable harmonics.  Not sure about
dynamat, but several of the C5 owners use Frost King, which is
available at most home stores, (and doesn't carry the "Corvette
Tax"<g>) to quiet road noise in general.

general.

Tires were the main reason for the noise, a good exhaust did not add to it
unless you're at full throttle. I never added and sound deadeners except for
a carpet cargo mat. The run flats are the worst and I removed them from both
C5s I had, great change.

I agree.  The tires were the culprit on my 2001 C5 Coupe.  Changed to
Continental Extreme Contact tires.  Now it rides smoother and 75% quieter.

I agree completely.  I too, changed to Continental Extreme Contacts and not
only have a far quieter ride, but have much better traction in both rain and
snow.

Yes Dynamat helps it will reduce the interior noise by 15DB if Applied
correctly with tie additional on a cargo mat the noise is reduced also I
have done both on my 04 Coupe, and have reduced the noise level to a
acceptable level with out adding to much weight to to cat
