C5 Peeling Coating on Glass Roof

I have found a partial solution for the classic problems with the
transparent glass roof for the C5. These often have their hard, outer
coating peel off. The damage is always a stripe on the passenger side
running front to back.

There are 2 steps:

1.) Wet sand the affected area with 2000 grit wet-dry paper. Sand until the
edges of the coating are feathered out.

2.) Polish with lamb's wool pad on an automotive polishing machine or a
smaller pad in a power drill. Use a very fine compound like 3M's that is
meant for hand-glazing.

While not perfect, the roof's appearance is easily ten times better than the
dull blotchy stripe you started with.

Is the "glass" roof panel on the C5 made of different material then
the C5 "glass" panels... ?

If so... my glass roof panel on my 95 looks perfect (from the
outside..starting to see a few spyder webs however from the inside
however)...

I wet sanded it with 1600 grit sand paper.... followed by buffing with
Nexis No 3 plastic polish then followed by Nexis No 2 polish

That was maybe 6-7 years ago no longer do I have a clear coat on
it...I just use normal car wax...

If you do a google of news groups you should find instructions for
doing a C4....AND when you start wet sanding with 1600 grit paper you
will definately think you really screwed up the top and you ruined it
But honestly the Nexis (spelling) plastic polish levels the surface
out enough to make it reflective and shinny... using 2000 grit paper
would work..but woiuld take much longer.....
