Close, but no cigar, Dunlop seems to have the right combination right
now for summer performance tires. Not sure their test means as much as
the peoples impute that bought and are driving the tires. Read the
reviews on Tire Rack and how that rated most of those same tires, not
some keyboard jockeys opinion. My passion is not with Car & Drivers
rag so it may taint my opinion of their work or lack there of. Most of
those can't put shoes on a C6 yet, sadly not even Dunlop.

Yup, interesting tests and thanks to '88 for the post. If you are a
Beemer driver in Memphis, go for it!
I think the C&D article is OK for weeding out under performers. Dad's
got it right here--place more emphasis on platform specific input from
someone who says what and how he/she drives and on what surfaces. Also,
how important was money in the decision? (The "pocket change" between
Goodyears and Contis will buy several dinners out.)
Even if C&D's math formula is your piece of cake, tire construction
doesn't scale well as tread width & profile change (from 225/45 to
275/40 for example). Certainly, C&D's five top tires are quality goods
but this article looks at the "sweet spot" for a 225/45 tread and
carcass mounted on a Beemer.

I also have F1 GS-D3's on my '94 6spd Ragtop, w/315's on the rear
and they are much quieter than the Potenza RE71's they replaced.
It must have to do with that there are no "tread blocks" to hammer the
road surface, with the "v" tread there is never anything hammering, just
smooth laydown of tire material. <shrugs shoulders>
But I did like the conventional tread pattern on the Bridgestones though
over the futuristic "V" thread. But they sure run quiet, and that is
important
on a ragtop.

All I can say about the GS-D3's - got them on the back of my C5, for the
last couple of months (Phoenix city driving) - saves having to buy F1
Supercars - not worth the extra IMO.

Yea, I can't comment on the outer ragged edge of grip, cuz I baby
my Vette now-a-days (an occasional romp), but for around town
and highway, they are the quietest tires this size I can remember
for this aspect ratio. And they ride fine....
Now the big a.s Mickey Thompsons I had on the '32 were also
very quiet, but they are nothing but big pillows. LOLOL
