Gas filler door spring?

Has anyone ever replaced the gas filler door spring on 1976 c3.  I have
not been able to get it in place!

I have replaced mine on my '77.  It snapped in sort of hard, but other than
that, no problem.  The new one really slams that lid down, too.

Thanks,I just got ot on.  You are right it was hard.  And it does slam
