The following is from a complaint I just register with the BBB. If you've
had similar problems please contact me...
I purchased a Jaguar XKR from CARMAX's Davie Store on 5/19/07. At which time
I noticed several problems with the car that needed to be fixed. I reported
the issues and left the car with them for repair. When I picked up the car I
noticed that most of my issues were not addressed. While waiting for parts
to arrive for the second round of repairs, I took the car home for a few
days. I found numerous other repair issues. I found 12 warrantee issues.
When I brought the car back I gave the Service Manager, Sammy Warnamally a
printed list, and copies of CARMAX's certification form showing why these
items were covered. I brought my car in on 6/1/07. When I got my car back 14
DAYS later discovered 1) stereo wasn't fixed, 2) second set of keys and
valet key were not in yet, 3) convertible cover was not ordered, 4) trim
around the door handle wasn't addressed 5) visor wasn't replaced "because
Jaguar sent them the wrong part." 6) now the rear view mirror is loose as if
the car suffered a heavy impact or was driven a long distance down a dirt
road. Caked on white mud is on the inside door panels. For 2 weeks I have
been strung along by the service manager. When I asked to pick up my car
until the parts arrived, I was repeatedly told the seats were taken apart
and awaiting a headrest motor from Jaguar so I could not pick it up. Jaguar
Parts Department told me their delivery takes a week at most and parts can
be overnighted for a nominal cost of $6 per item. I was lied to that my car
was ready except for the headrest motors. I was also lied to about the extra
set of keys being there. Despite involvement of Operations Manager Adam
Warner and General Manager Theresa, my vehicle is still not fixed. I have
lost many hours work, suffered grief, and have had to pay $606 payment for a
car I was only able to drive a few days. I am releasing this to the Media,
posting my story on Internet consumer protection websites, forums and
newsgroups to get together a class action lawsuit. I am registering a
complaint with the Attorney General's Office and State Attorney's Office, as
I suspect foul play.
As it is impossible to trust CARMAX, I want all further repairs to be done
at Alpine Jaguar. I want Jaguar to inspect the car for accident/abuse
damage. Compensation for my monthly payment to Capital One for $606. My lost
time and wages estimated at 6 hours at $150 an hour. Grief and punitive
damages will be addressed in another arena.

I had the exact opposite experience at CARMAX in Laurel, MD. They went
above and beyond, including sending my car to a second local new car
dealer after the first local dealer gave them the "they all do that"
line of BS.

I bought two vehicles from this exact dealership.  The only issue I
ever had with them was they wouldn't give my wife a decent finance
rate because she was a 'housewife', so I had to go there and deal with
them myself.  They addressed every issue I had promptly.  Maybe it's
because you bought a Jag?

Ok, I gotta ask.  Why did you give your money to a place that tried to
screw your spouse over?  I would have bought someplace else and then
driven over & rubbed it in the Finance Monkey's face!

I think the guy was ignorant because he was plugging her part time
income into the computer and not taking my income into account.  The
vehicle was a REAL good deal in comparison to what we were looking at.

I walked in and told him that he was going to have to meet our current
payments and he did.

Sometimes you just have to straighten out the loose nut behind the

I used to take your approach and teach other people how to do their
jobs when I was attempting to get service from them.  Sometimes I
still do if I think they are capable of learning, or like in your case
it is a really god deal, but  I guess over time I've just sort of lost
my patience with incompetence.

True story, wife and I were de-doing the kitchen and she wanted all
new appliances.  She drags me over to Best Buy and points out what she
wants.  The whole she-bang of kitchen gadgets & gizmos.  I tell the
sales monkey to wrap'er up & arrange delivery.  After watching him
putz with the computer for what had to be at least an hour -- he tells
me delivery will be in six weeks.  I looked at him like he just asked
to screw me, the wife & pet dog and inquired as to why it was going to
take six-weeks to bring 10-grand worth a sh.t about two miles.  He
went uh duh, first available delivery appointment.  I walked up to the
customer service counter & asked who wanted to take personal
responsibility for losing Best Buy a 10-grand sale (rather loudly, but
not obscenely so).  I swear to gawd they all just stared at me and not
freakin one spoke.

Took the wife by the arm went over to Home Depot next door.  Told the
sales chick I wanted a fully equipped top-O-line stainless steel
kitchen setup.  About 10 minutes later I was walking out with the
entire order inputted into the system then delivered & installed three
days later.

Moral of the story -- don't f.ck around with a guy who hates to go
shopping with his wife & has an annual bonus burning a whole in her
pocket.  Me I could have lived with the old white sh.t for another
decade.

I agree, but would you have paid an extra 2 grand to make that point?
I wasn't willing to do so.  The guy she was dealing with barely spoke
English and I'm a pretty good judge of people, I believe he wasn't
trying to rip her off.  He was just ignorant.

Now, there's the other side of the story that I didn't tell you, my
wife shopped and made the deal on the vehicle by herself and didn't
draw me into the picture until the last minute.  Now THAT'S worth
something...

2K?  I don't think so.  I'm grumpy -- not stupid.  The thing is, that
I would still be irritated.  I'm trying to get irritation out of my

Know the difference between a no-doc loan and a stated income loan. You
weren't asked for proof of income were you?

My "Blank Check Loan" loan with Capital One came in a whopping three
percentage points lower than CARMAX's financing. No doubt they are doing an
add-on. Go to Capital One's website and do a refinance!

When purchasing my last Vette the finance Monkey swore up & down that
10.9% was the absolute best rate he had in his book for a used car.  I
bet him $20 I could get on the Internet and find a better rate in
10-minutes.  He took the bet, I jumped on his machine & hit the
Internet.  One Finance Monkey out a crisp $20!

Did that very thing this last year. Business manager of the local  small
town Toyota dealer gave us a crappy price on the wife's new Highlander. We
walked out, went elsewhere, even though a lot further away for the purchase.
The ride was well worth the difference in price.

We are in the local one for the service, and make a point of letting them
know how that guy lost them a sale.  We also let everyone we talk to know
how he screwed up and we got a better deal elsewhere.

My friend is getting jerked around there too. His car has been in the shop
two months out of the tree months he had it. Bad motor mounts, bad hoses.
Nothing's covered under the extended warrantee, but yet should have been put
right before they sold the car. At least that's what their Certification
says. He's a lot more meek than me so he's paying through the nose. They
won't even give him a rental. He bought a Toyota Echo however.

I sold my '98 Vette before I bought the Jag and I like the Jag better. It's
just as fast and is much more pleasurable and refined to drive. I leased an
XK8 at aroud the same time I bought the Vette. Even with the underpowered
XK8 I favored driving the Jag. My wife favored the Vette. Oh, BTW I added
100hp nitrous and cut-outs on the Jag so that helped a lot! This one, the
XKR is supercharged so it feels as fast as the Vette without pushing a
button.

BTW they've agreed to buy back the car.

Once they chaged the Vett's headlights to those Jap one's, the C-6 became
out of the question. :(

My question is if you knew about all these problems with the car before
you drove it off the lot, why did you take delivery BEFORE these issues
needed to be addressed?  I am not trying to be a smart a.s here, but It
seems that was your first mistake.

I didn't take delivery at first. They did repairs, but not all of them. The
second time I brought it in they assured me they were ordering the parts and
would put everything right.

So, let me get this straight... you found a car, it had issues, you
asked them to fix the car before you took delivery....they told you to pick
it up because the car was ready, you checked it over again and found more
issues, and still took it home?  hmmmmm.....back to square one....
I would have left it there until it was complete and all issues
were resolved...maybe I would be an a.s for doing so, but at least I would
know the car had no problems and the dealer was willing to give me good
service without any hassle.  I guess you learned a valuable lesson here
huh??  20/20 hindsight is always well...20/20.....lol

Good luck with the car though....hopefully they resolved all your issues and
you are a happy owner now...

I could say, "It's a F-O-O-O-O-R-D."  But,
It's Friday and the WX is beautiful. Good
news:  This wasn't cross posted.

Hey Stephen,

At $300 grand a year you should know better!

I don't care which dealer it is.  Next time:

Don't ever hand a dealer a list of things you
expect to have fixed.  (This sort of list
won't cut ice with the BBB, Attorney Gen. or
anyone else.)

Have the dealer give you a signed list of
what's going to be done, when, and to what
standard (new parts, reconditioned, etc.) Do
this while the money is still in your pocket.

Try to live so that you don't revert to
litigation--only raises your B.P. and takes
money from your pocket.

Hope this will help... next time.

While I'll agree that is possibly a shitty level of service, you're
also going  to have to come to grips with a couple of things yourself.

First and foremost this is a Corvette Forum, and I'm only saying that
so my response is at least on-topic.

Now as to buying used cars, especially luxury used cars.  When anyone
other then the brand dealer is selling a used luxury car that means
they got them at an auction, usually because the brand-name dealer
knew the vehicle had issues and didn't want to be associated with it.
All of your luxury/high-end vehicle dealers get rid of the dogs via
auction to the second-tier retailers.

Even if you "bought with your heart" instead of your head, (btw --
we've all done it at one time or another, its how we learn) you should
have made addressing all of the issues you were aware of as part of
the deal and never took delivery until they were 100% addressed to
your satisfaction.

Lastly, I hope to god you are 100% right & accurate with everything
you just said about these people in public, because if you are not --
you've just set yourself up for one helluva slander/libel suit.
Especially if the dealer is/was working with you to address these
issues.

Lastly, while my middle name isn't Nostradamus, I predict you don't
get jackshit other then aggravation & grief if you're attempting to
pursue a legal remedy to this problem, let alone the amounts of money
you mentioned.

=============================
I agree with you . Makes no difference, Nostradamus or not I think
your prediction will come true...!

Why anyone would buy a car from any dealer that had  12 "issues" it is
just beyond me.. unless the price was extremely good and the issues
were not important to you, were quickly and easily fixed by you, and
were not related to a saftey issue etc.

Why anyone would buy a high-end luxury car from what is a normally
discount mass retailer beats me in the first place.  If the car was
pristine, the brands dealer would have kept it.  I can understand
buying something like this person-person, or from the Dealers lot, but
not off a "Used Car Lot", especially with "issues".

'I purchased a Jaguar XKR from CARMAX's Davie Store on 5/19/07. At which

REPLY:  The way i would have handled the purchase of your Jag , would be
to have had an authorized Jag Dealer do a thorough inspection on it
whereby they write down all the problems they found with it. Then, go
back to CarMax with the list and cost of repairs and tell them you will
only buy the car from them if they reduce the purchase price to cover
the repair costs.  If they agree and you purchase the Jag,  then you go
back to the Jag Dealer to have the work done.
