Radio/CD/Cassette on 03 Malibu exhibits a problem when trying to use an
adapter (for connecting an MP3 player for example) in the cassette player
that I didn't have with my previous car stereos. It goes in one direction,
then switches to the other, then spits out the adapter with a message like
"CHECK CASS". Seems the cassette player must check the spindle speed, or
tape movement or something, to make sure that the cassette is OK. Since
these adapters don't have a tape in them, is there any way to prevent this
"check" condition? I understand that many things can be switched using
radio function buttons, but this all seems unpublished - except to dealers
no doubt.
(dealer was no help, just tried to sell me a replacement deck with an Audio
Input for the MP3 player)

I have a 01 with a tape deck, used a tape adpater all the time, never
had a problem. Try doing a yahoo search and see what comes up with the
following phrase in the search box
check cass AND chevy.

if you want a working tape deck, I want a working cd deck, but I have a
spare rds radio tape deck radio I could trade.

I use both the CD and Tape decks fairly regularly, so thanks for the trade
offer, but no thanks
(just wanted to plug in the portable MP3 player as an additional option, and
in the absence of an "Audio In" jack, this old adapter seemed the
appropriate means to that end. Worked fine with the tape players in both my
old Neon, and 2 different Caravans -- guess the Chryco units were too dumb
to realize this thing shouldn't work. GM/Delphi (Delco?) unit is just too
"smart" for its own good)

I have the same "Check" message on my '05 w/ CDs. Took it to the
dealer and they replaced the stereo.
