I have owned 2001 LS and i have this starting problem.
It happened just after about 3 yr ( I had 5 yrs Ex Warr) and got to a
dealer and they said they had to change some parts which fixed it. Last
yr just about 1 month short of 5 yrs it happened again and the dealer
ended up replacing a bunch more stuff, this time about $700 ( i just
paid $250 for towing and some parts not covered and oil change etc) and
it still persisted and finally the techie told me there was a loose
connection under carriage which fixed the problem after going back and
forth for a week.
I have a countless posts by lots of peple referring to GM vehicles and
having similar issues and similar remedies ( like keep the keys in the
ignition ON for 10 mins and the cars starts ). I wonder if this is a
bug in the software which GM intentionally ignores or is too busy
working on new features or just left there for the aftersales revenue ?
Would like GM to comment and provide a solution. Personally I like my
Malibu and some other GM vehicles i have tried (rented) over the years.
Over the past week or so it has become more frequest and the only thing
i could link or i think is the problem is the cruise control.
I noticed today morning that it was completely dead and my criuse
control light was ON
I had bought a Jumpstarter and charged it full just for safety and I
had to use it today morning and first crank it came ON after jumpstart.
Does that mean that criuse control does drain the battery overnight ?!
Any ideas please.

Cruise control shouldn't drain the battery. I don't know what the
porblem could be though.
