Does anyone know what causes the surging with these cars when hitting a small incline or going up hill out on the highway ? I've changed plugs and wires, no help. The car runs fine, all but this one little problem. 2000, Malibu, 3100. If that's what's happening, it's getting right to where it should downshift, and doesn't. It's like the whole car wants to surge forward over and over and over until you reach the top of the incline or hill, and then it's stops doing it. You might also see if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer. Code stored for EGR value, can't remember the exact code number, but I do believe (best I can remember) it was for spindle not closed or something like that. Guess I'll change the EGR valve out and the fuel filter and see what develops. From the way it acts, it very well could be the EGR that's causing it. Was just wondering if it was a common problem with the 3100 and someone knew for sure what causes it. I don't know if this is a common issue with these cars, but my 1998 Malibu had the exact same symptons when the coil packs needed to be replaced. The engine light on my car came on and when I had the computer scanned, I had a misfire on 3 out of 6 cylinders. All 3 of the coil packs had noticeable cracks in the plastic, leading me to believe moisture was causing the coils to misfire. When the misifiring got really severe, the engine light started flashing and the car would stumble and barely run. Sharky |
