Help!!...I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu with approx. 85,000 miles on it and while
driving to work this morning the power steering light came on and while on
the freeway my power steering went out. Realizing when I got the car back in
2004 this happend before and needed replaced. It was replaced however the same
problem exist again. Is anyone else having these problems?

If so what would you suggest?

Yes, it is endemic to these cars. I had my steering column replaced under
warranty on my '04 Maxx. Now at 65,000 miles I have a very loose feeling in
the steering over bumps. The light has not come on. The dealer said any fix
would be at my cost. They replaced the center section of the steering column
and the problem was still there. They were on the phone with Chevrolet Tech
service and recommended replacement of the steering rack for $395. I said
no, and am still driving it. I had huge problems with brake rotors which
cost me plenty. My power assist still works.
Others have complained that the power assist comes and goes. You don't have
much choice-get it fixed or trade the car. Go to the NHTSA website and see
all the compliants about Malibu steering. You can file a compliant online.
This is a safety issue but GM will not do a recall.

Thank you so much Jakey, I will file a complaint and hopefully if they get
enough they will recall it again. I am having my husband go to the dealership
today to find out if they can fix it, I'll let you know what they say.

Thanks again!!
