The A/C goes on/off by itself. This happens most in real hot weather. I've taken the car to my local mechanic who doesn't really know where to start. I've seen mentions of a Control Module in other posts here. Will that handle this problem? Cost of part? Ease of replacement?
Thanks.

Replace the Control Module. Easy job...about 20 minutes max...cost me about
$100 but that was my father's price (he works for a chevy dealership). Very
common problem (one of many) with this car!

What exactly do you mean goes on and off....Does the control head kick
off or does the compressor kick itself off? If the control head kicks
off then yeah it is more than likely
your module....But if it reads on and stops blowing cold air its you
cycling switch....

It's the control panel. Fairly common problem with these cars. I took mine
out and disassembled it and cleaned all the contacts with pure (not rubbing)
alcohol. It's been working good since then.
