My 2001 Malibu just went out of warranty and now after a hard rain or snow
melt I get water in the floor on the passenger side.  I've removed as much
as 1.5 liters of water from the carpet on the passenger side on 2 separate
occasions.  I have a factory sunroof and an aftermarket wind deflector that
may be the entry point.  It is not antifreeze.

I was told that factory sunroofs should have drains, and I'm wondering if
mine is clogged.  No water appears anywhere between the sunroof and the
floor, but the accumulation is significant on the floor.  It actually pools
so deep it saturates the floor mat.

If anybody knows how the sunroof drain works in this vehicle or has a
similar problem please reply.

Thank you,
- Duane

There is actually a tech service bulletin on this.  It is caused by a failure of the sealer used on the plastic edging that goes on the bottom edge of the windshield.  The plastic is "sealed" to the glass edge and goes over the top of the plastic wiper motor cover.  The seal fails (as mine did) and the edging pulls away from the windshield allowing the water to get under the plastic cover panel.

Thanks for your reply.  My leak appears to be a little different.  It is
coming in from the sunroof, through the A-pillar, then across the fuse box
on the passenger side of the dash, then over the kick panel.  I dropped it
off at the dealer yesterday and they mentioned over the phone today that it
is a damaged hose.  I believe it is the hose that would normally channel the
water from the sunroof inner frame to under the car.

Hopefully it comes back fixed!
