Just look on the side of the tire, it always tells that information!

Uh...no!  That is the MAXIMUM pressure that the tire design can handle.  You
should use ONLY the pressure designed for the car.  Most sedans are in the
~30PSI range.  Check your owners manual if the door sticker has been lost.

I see that i need to be clearer, owners manual does not state the tire pressure and i dont have the
door sticker...thats why i asked if anyone here had a 99 that would be willing to look at their door
sticker as there was no way i would put 44lbs or max pressure in any tire. looks like i will just
drop by a dealer and crack a door to find this out...

Try looking under the spare tire cover...it may be listed there as well.

I have a 1999, I just checked (sticker is on driver's side REAR door):
29psi front, 26psi rear (cold).  Add 4psi to both if hot.
This is for the original tires (Firestone Affinity in my case).

Nothing wrong with 44psi if the tire says it can take it (and the tire is
rated to fit your vehicle).

Quite often the tire lists the max pressure - if you inflate it to this
pressure, the tire will wear down the center of the thred.

AND your wet traction will be greatly reduced.  Always inflate to the vehicle
specs.  44PSI when the vehicle calls for 26-29 is asking for trouble.

If you bought the car used, also check the area where the missing
sticker should be for repaired crash damage.

My 2001 and 2003 say 29 psi for the fronts and 26 psi for the rears
(cold).

I have a 99 Malibu, and I am 99% certain the sticker says 29 psi front and
26 psi rear.  If I read any different when I check the car, I will let you
know.

Here's another question.  I put winter tires on my car.  They are slightly
narrower, with a taller sidewall to preserve the overall height and keep the
speedometer accurate.  I assume I need a slightly higher pressure because of
the narrower foot print, but I'm not sure how much more.  Any thoughts?

Thanks Brad and Chris for your responses.

Chris, I myself went to a higher profile tire and noticed harder steering and different handling
characteristics.i played with the tire pressure to try and get it back to where it felt like it was
before. 32lbs front and 30lbs rear .i will be going back to a lower profile tire this summer as the
car feels like it handles better on them...hope this helps.

Thank you,

I definitely noticed a smoother ride with a taller sidewall (not as much
jolting), and didn't notice any loss in handling.  Of course, these tires
are winter tires, so the softer rubber compound might explain the softer
ride.
