Magnet in cooling reservoir

This is a weird one...

I have a 2000 Malibu, 3.1L V-6 with 40k miles. This morning I drained the
coolant and refilled the system with Dex-Cool. While I was doing this job, I
also removed the coolant reservoir so I could flush out all of the crud that
tends to accumulate in there. After filling it with hot water and shaking it
a little, I saw a chunk of something come out with the water. Turns out it's
a small magnet, about 1/4" x 1/4" by 1/2". Where could this have come from?
Is it part of the "Low Coolant Switch" assembly? BTW - no alarm for low
coolant.

You are right! That is a floater with a small magnet. When fluid level
reach the switch which is mounted on out side of reservior, the magnetic
force will trigger the switch. If you remove that magnet, it will never
have low coolant alarm. You please put the floater back to its rail.
