Our Maliboo has the ABS light coming on recently.  It is happening often,
and I'm concerned.  Has anybody else had any experience with this occurring
on their malibu?

Our Malibu is a 2001 LS with 38,000 miles.  It has had the intake manifold
leak fixed, the heater switch resistor replaced, the front brakes replaced
and now the ABS light is coming on.  $eem$ like an expen$ive car to own.

The ABS light comes on in my 2000 Malibu from time to time.  The next time I
start the engine, it (ABS light) doesn't come on.  Everything is okay.  It's
just a minor annoyance; the only problem we have had.  It now has 115,000 Km
on it

Thanks David for the reply.  I'm glad to hear you have 115Kmi and only 1
problem!  That's excellent.

My experience with ABS lights is that it usually tells you that the one
wheel speed sensor is not similar to the other 3, and it disables the ABS
when the light is on.  I also learned that sometimes dirt (brake dust, metal
fillings...) can be the culprit, and cleaning the dirt at the "sensor
pickup" with air or a soft brush can solve that problem.

My ABS light unfortunately came back on after restarting the car several
times.

Anybody else having this ABS light problem?

I've recently learned that GM has had a lot of failures of these new (2001
and newer?) bearing assembly that incorporates the ABS.  It appears that
this is used on many GM vehicles and my 2001 has failed with just 39,000mi
on it.  Two major auto parts stores sell many of these for $120/.

GM wants $550 to replace just 1 of these wheel bearing assemblies!

Your loosing me GM! - Duane

I have had problems with my 2001 for months, starting at around 35,000
miles.  The ABS light started coing on intermittently then stayed on.
Service told me I needed new brakes, which I had done at a VIP to save
quite a bit of money.  That did not fix the ABS light so dealer service
replaced the driver's front hub & bearing assembly and less than 2 months
later they replaced the same one.  Here I am again less than 2 months
later with the light coming on again intermittently.  It usually comes on
in the morning when I leave for work but if I immediately pull over and
shut off the ignition then turn it right back on the light is off.  I
called service again and he said to wait until the light stays on so that
it will have recorded the problem.  He said it is not a safety issue.  I
would have traded this piece of crap in but I'm upside down on payments.

My 2001 Mali'boo also had a ABS light come on, and it turned out to be the
front hub bearing assy.  I also had a wheel bearing noise at the same time.
The hub assy includes the ABS sensor.

It turns out that I thought the wheel bearing noise was coming from the
drivers side, but it was the passenger side that was the culprit.
