There is a level plug in the side of the trans. .
It's checked with the engine running and trans slightly warm. Car must be
level while jacked up.

I was told by the GM dealer that the engine/Trans should be slightly warmed
up, engine OFF , and the car level before checking the oil level in the
Transmission.
This is a really dumb set up. The transmission gasket is reusable for those
of you who plan to change transmission filter and fluid.

Not according to Alldata.
"Engine must be running when fluid level screw is removed or excessive fluid
loss will occur"
Plus various warnings about not turning engine off as you may be burnt by
hot fluid being expelled, etc.
Just goes to show what the "service expert" says and what's in print says.
