my 2002 malibu makes a radling engin noise when its about 2k rpm
so I asked a friend and he thought it would be a dirty air intake or a
leak ..

so got one of those thro-body cleaner and toke the boot off an it
wasnt that dirty ! just a littel yellowsh ... I cleaned it anyways....
and also changed the air filter ..

the noise is still happening !

the cleaner can says to spray inside ...but Im not too sure if I
should do that since a mechanic worned me not to that !

why would they put on the insruction to spray inside if it would harm
the system ?!

anyways ... is there anything else would cause this ??
spark plugs or fuel filter ?

thanks in advance

Sounds like pinging. Try switching to 91~93 octane fuel for about 1/2 tank &
see if the noise goes away. If it does, you have problems. Come back &
report to us.

Try 91 or 93 for 1 tank & see if it goes away.

Looking back in the thread... 2002 Malibu making a rattling noise. Switching
to higher octane reduced the rattling. This makes me almost 100% sure that
it's pinging. Go real easy on the throttle until this is resolved. What I
would do is run a can of Seafoam cleaner through the gas tank (can be had @
$5.50/can from Carquest, O'Reilly, Autozone, etc) and run 87 octane. Pour in
the Seafoam cleaner first, then fill it up with 87 octane. Drive EASILY the
entire tank... don't ever go full throttle if it's causing pinging... unless
you want a dead motor. See if this reduces/eliminates the noise. If it
reduces it, run another can through it. If it reduced it in the first can,
but didn't eliminate it during the 2nd... then come back & let me know.
Also, check spark plugs... see what condition they are in. You might try
running 1/3 pint of Seafoam through the PCV valve or any vacuum line that
will let it go to all cylinders... if you are going to try this, do it while
the car is warmed up & running.. after you poured in 1/3 of a pint (1 pint =
16 fl oz = 1 can), shut the car off for 5 minutes. Start it back up. Expect
a lot of smoke ;). The smoke is fine... drive the car fairly hard until the
smoke stops coming out of the exhaust. This'll clean out a lot of carbon
buildup in your engine. Hope this helps.

Change your settings in your newsgroup reader to save messages longer. You
can copy specific messages that you want to save too... but if you can't
retrieve old messages still, best suggestion I can think up is check the
newsgroup messages via Google :(. Good luck!
