Transmission problems

Hello, I have a 99 Monte Carlo with about 140k miles on it. A few months ago
I had the transmission fluid replaced and it started doing weird things a
few weeks later. I've checked the level when it's hot and the car is running
and I don't see a problem.

Sometimes after I've been on the highway for a little while and then I get
off, when the transmission is shifting through the gears, it slams into each
gear instead of the nice smooth shift it always has. I've tried using just
the regular D, the D with the square around it, I've put the car in park and
neutrual then back to drive. I've also shut the car off and back on. the
ONLY thing that seems to stop the problem is having the car off for an
extended amount of time to allow things to cool down.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? The dealership had no idea
because I can't get the car to do the problem when I bring it to them.

Could be faulty vacuum modulator, check for vacuum at modulator
supply hose, if vacuum good, change modulator
Peter - 23 Dec 2004 02:50 GMT
I was reading up on the internet a little about the modulator. It said it's
mounted to the side of the trans and a hose comes up to the engine. But it
wasn't for my car, I was just reading general info.

Do you know where it is on my car and/or where the hose is on the engine?

Thanks for your input!

This transmission does not use a modulator, all shifts are controlled by the
computer.
Who did the transmission fluid change, the dealer or a service shop?
If the wrong fluid was used this might cause the problems you are having.
I would take it to a transmission shop, get them to check it out.

could be " wrong "   I'd go to synthetic ATF for maximum satisfaction

As for computer controlled shifts,  yes  modern trannys are computer
controlled
Peter - 23 Dec 2004 05:41 GMT
it was the dealership that did it. I will tell them.

Thanks for your help
