Whats Up
I own a 2000 Malibu, I have all the problems everyone else is having only
I know have a MAJOR problem. It will not start at all. When I go to
start it, it does pretty much the same thing that the passlock 2 system
has done for a couple years or so, but now, It is not allowing fuel to the
engine, but the light is not on, and even if I leave the key in on for 2
hours(supposed to be 10 minutes) still no luck. This is my only vehicle
and Im pretty much broke, so I gotta figure this out myself before work
tommorow. I have been woking on this for about 4 days and have done lots
of checks, here is all the info that I have...
The tank DOES HAVE GAS....
I can hear the fuel pump working when I switch the car to on or try to
start....
The relay for the fuel pump seems fine since I can't hear the fuel pump
when I remove it and try to start, and I can hear it when I put it back in
and try to start...
Replaced fuel filter and there was gas in the lines...
Spark plugs are sparking....
Engine is turning over and cranking but doesn't seem to be getting
fuel(reminds me of all the time Ive had to wait 10 minutes to go anywhere
with the theft lock system)...
Theft System light is not on....
Starter seems fine....
THE STRANGE THING IS THAT MY CAR HAS EXACTLY 74,000 MILES ON IT WHEN IT
QUIT STARTING>.....
Seems like an electrical(computer) problem, but I can tell if its that, or
cloged lines maybe????
If noone knows what the problem is from the info I left, please try to
answer a few more questions for me... (im not anywhere near a mechanic
level of expertise)...
Is there anyway(preferably simple) to see if gas is getting to my
engine... I know its getting to the fuel filter, but, beyond that, I have
no idea to check...
Is there anyway to reset the computer on a malibu????
Any info would be much appreciated...
Thanks
a feed up chevy owner (this is the last chevy I will ever own) i must of
been lying when I said that chevys put out good cars should have stayed
away from the malibu....

To reset the computer, disconnect the negative (ground) battery cable for
20-25 minutes. I don't think this will solve your problem, however, based on
the way you described it.
You can check for fuel pressure on the fuel lines (snag a Haynes or Chiltons
manual.. or even just ask O'Reilly or Autozone how to do this--it will
require a special tool & both stores have it available).
A car needs 3 things to start & keep running... fuel, air, and spark. You
say that you're getting spark. Check for fuel & air.
Best of luck to ya :<.
