I was just out filling the tires with air and noticed that there are cracks
running the full length around the tires in between the treads on all four
tires ,, these are the original Firestone Affinity tires with only 55k on
them.

Is this normal or should it be something to worry about???

I know that GM only covers them up to 60k but what would happen with
Firestone themselves??

Thanks , Gord

Sounds like early dry rot, which happens typically on much older tires than
yours.  Get to the Firestone dealer in your area to check out.

Thanks for the response James ,,, i too thought it a little odd ,,, the
only time i've seen this is on a vehicle that had sat in one place for many
years and on tires that were basically at the end of their lifespan ,,,ie:
quite bald.

What would the Km. rating for these tires ,, on the Firestone/Bridgestone
site it only shows mileage which

It's early to be cracking, but we don't know how old those tires really
are. You could check the date on them I believe, perhaps coded.
Rubber does crack based on use as well as time though. A serpentine
belt will crack in months because of being bent so many times. They
continue to perform because of the backing. You should be OK with your
tires for the remaining life. It sounds like high mileage on tires
based on the cheap stuff I buy. And you are more observant than most
people who would never notice cracking in that area of the tire.
