Broken egr valve

Okay so i just got a 98 Malibu LS two days ago, and when i brought it
home from the dealer the check engine light was on. I went and had it
checked out, and they said my EGR valve was broken. I have ordered a
new one, but i also noticed yesterday that my car doesnt start right.
It will start then turn right off, almost like not starting at all. It
does this like 3-4 times before it really starts. I was just wondering
if this could be due to the broken EGR valve??

possibly egr system can cause all kinds of runability concerns
