My friend just lost his wife and daughter and has a lot of bills to pay. He
does not have a computer so I am posting this for him. He need his car to
go to work. His 1985 Monte Carlo backfires when he gives it gas on the
interstate and sometime it dies after it backfires and he has to pull over
and restart it. He put new plugs, plugs wires, rotor cap, pcv value, check
all the vacuum hoses and he fix the converter on his mufler. In the
mourning after it sit all night sometimes its is hard to start and a
littel white smoke will come out. It has a V6 in it a 4.3L and automatic
thank you very much for your time

Alrighty then...Sounds like a few things...For starters is it in time?
Next does it backfire through the exhaust or through the carb?
White smoke sounds like his intake is leaking...Coolant is getting into
the cylinders thus white smoke....pressure test the cooling
system....Could on just be it needs a ew set of intake
gaskets...Pressure testing it is sure fire way to tell or look in front
of the motor between the block and the intake does it leak oil? Let me
know if i can help ..
