Just bought a used 98 malibu today ..has 166,00 kms runs smooth ,but just
wondering if i should have bought the 3.1...i choose the 2.4 because i have
heard of problems with the 3100 engines ..

Also noticed on the motor it is the same design as the old quad 4 in the 94
grand ams .

I've only known one person who has had a malibu with the 4cyl, and he's
had to have new motors installed - twice.  I think a lot depends on
what kind of driving you do - in my opinion, that's a big car for 4 cyl.

No it isn't.  There are many cars that size and weight that have 4-cylinder
engines.  Sebring, Camry, Accord, to name a few.

I've had no problems with my 98 since I bought it new.
