my 2001 malibu some times just clicks then dies when i try to start it.
when it does start it starts right up, so i don't think the battery is
weak.  thank you for your help.

Battery may not be weak, but the connections to it may be. Pull them
off and clean them well. Make sure they are tight when reconnecting.

Mine also had an issue with the ignition cylinder wearing out.
Replacing it solved the problem.

Good luck!

May have a bad cell in your battery which is not letting it hold
charge....Or you have corroded terminals at your battery or you could
have a parastedic draw ...Meaning something isn't shutting down like it
should which is slightly draining your battery....Does it click mainly
in the mornings? If its through out the day like after you've drove it
for a wile then check you terminals. If your batter tests good and your
terminals are clean and it shows no draw on the batter...Then I would
look towards the ignition switch....
