I just got the following e-mail in response to a complaint I lodged. See
below for background.  If you'll send e-mail to mtrac@onuj.com (reverse
domain) I'll pass along the sender's phone # and e-mail. Please follow up if
you own (or owned, since I think you'll be reimbursed for repairs in a
recall) one of these vehicles and have had this problem.

Dear Sir or Madam,

You are receiving this e-mail because you filed a consumer complaint with us
concerning Turn Signal/Hazard Light Failure on model year 2002 Chevrolet
Malibu or Pontiac Grand Am or Oldsmobile Alero vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defects
Investigation (ODI) is presently reviewing a number of these complaints.  To
consistently identify the failure consequences associated with turn
signal/hazard light failure, we are seeking copies of any repair/remedy
records and/or the actual defective component.  Please either e-mail scanned
copies of these records to this address or fax them to my attention on (202)
366-7882.  Also, please state, if known, whether it was the hazard warning
switch (flasher)locate behind the dash or the multifunction switch locate in
the steering column that failed. Should you have questions or comments,
please feel free to call me on (202) 366-xxxx.  Your assistance in this
matter is greatly appreciated.

They do, but only for specific model years. The 2002 Malibu does not
and the dealer verified this when I brought it in. The purpose of my
post was to get owners to file complaints and submit documentation so
we can get the 2002MY recalled, too.

Good idea Mike .. where do a person complain (located in Canada)... as for I
have a 2002 Malibu with the same problem... when my signal lights don't work
I turn the hazard lights on & off three or four times and then they work
again for a little while... I think GM should have to fix the problem, since
seems like many people have this problem.....

I'm not sure about Canada, but try

BTW, instead of using the hazard lights, try banging the top of the
dashboard above the hazard switch.
