I need to replace the reverse light switch on a 5 speed Sonoma, should
be identical to the S-10.
It is a 5 speed and the switch bolts in to the driver's side of the 5
speed tranny.

Question: do I need to drain ant transmission fluid before removing
the switch, or is the switch above the  fluid line in the
transmission.

I hate to start this, and have a tranny full of oil come pouring out..

Thx,
Norman

You don't say what year the truck is, or if it's a 2WD or 4WD.
Doesn't look like it matters though, the GM shop manual for either the
NV1500 or NV3500, both say nothing about draining fluid, or even
checking fluid levels when finished.

As I said, it doesn't look like you'll lose much, if any, fluid.
Compare the location of the switch to the location of the fill plug.
If the switch is above the fill plug, you're golden...
