Chevy G20 Van - 305 engine - no temp reading

I've replaced the thermostat 3 times, trying to get heat in the beast, and
in the process have replaced the temp sender.

No reading on the temp gauge...... 2nd temp sensor didn't solve the problem.

Does anyone have a schematic? I should be able to read the resistance of the
sensor behind the dash, and trace it back to the sender, right?

Thanks for your help and pointers.....

Have you verified coolant temperature by others means?  Just because the
gauge isn't registering doesn't mean the engine isn't heating up.  Could be
a short in the wire, could be the gauge is just dead.

What year is this van?

Thanks for the reply Doc.

Van is a '95. I verified the temp with a thermometer in the radiator -
unpressurized 'cause cap was off, but it correlated with the thermostat. I
believe it's a wire problem - I'm an electrician and electronic tech - and
would love to get my hands on a schematic to trace it. I would also like to
get a chart of resistance vs. temperature......

My library has several manuals (Chilton), but no schematics.......

Id just add an aftermarket mechanical gauge, would be an easy fix.

Good thought - I'd already thought of it as plan B.  Thanks....

I have the scematics out in my garage and can scan them in tomorrow evening
sometime.  Too cold and too late to go out and grab em' right now.  E-mail
me gmc(underscore)man(at)adelphia(dot)net and I'll get em' out to you.

You didn't use nefarious amounts of teflon tape or pipe dope when you
installed the new temp sender did you?

You replaced the sender in the driver's side head and NOT the one located
next to the t-stat housing right?
