I have a 1994 Pickup,1500-5.7  I was on a trip and used the cruise going
there with no problem. On the way Home I went to use the cruise and nothing.I
kept trying many times.I looked incase it was a fuse ,I did not find one.On
the drivers side of the firewall there is a black box with the cable from
the throttle body and a plug with 6 or 7 wires going into it.
I take it the Box is gone???
I see 4 screws with torque heads to take the cover off of the box.Is there a
fuse or relay in there I can change???
Thanks for any advise guys.

Doug.

Did it myself, I bought a new control unplugged the old one plugged in the
new one and tried it problem solved, then when I removed the old lever from
the steering coloumn it broke the wiper control switch that was about $100
and the new control was About $50 I think and then the tools to pull the
steering wheel off and put it all back together a few cuss words and Routed
the new wire outside of the steering column to saving time and finished no
problems since.

Maybe I am stupid???
You first plugged in the new control??I take it you mean the control on the
firewall, since you can not unplug the switch on the steering column for the
cruise???

If it were the control box,why did you remove the old lever??
Maybe I am missing something

Thanks again for the help..

My truck is an 89 could be a little different. The wires that go through the
steering column plug into another set of wires at the bottom of the steering
column I unplugged the old ones plugged in the new ones and tried it out
before I did anything else, whenit worked my cruise control lever is the
same lever that runs the wipers and signal lights so I unplugged it from the
steering column and plugged the new one in.

Thanks Jeff I will give it a try since I can try it first.

How much were  the wires???Is it a whole Harness for the horn,
directionals,high Beams and wipers??
Or can you buy just the Cruise Control wires???
Thanks  Again

Doug

My 97' Gmc Sierra did something similar...in the "steering column wire
harness connector" it appeared that one of my wires had toasted and took two
others with it, I can't remember what the burnt wire was (this was a while
back) but it wasn't the cruise control...but it took one of my cruise
control wires with it on the meltdown.  I did my best to do a shadetree fix
(soldering iron and all).  I know I fixed the original problem but it added
malfunctions to my cruise control...such as...I could set the cruise speed,
but if I tapped the brakes to shut it off, the tab/lever on my blinker arm
used to put my truck back to the set speed would have no affect.  Fast
forward to now...my airbag light is always on and my cruise control is
toast.  I do not look forward to pulling my steering wheel and doing the
repair again...it wasn't all that easy of a repair job (in my opinion), and
I'm pretty good at electrical.

Wires don't "toast" for no reason.  When wires burn like that, it is usually
because the power became shorted to ground.  The burst of amperage caused
the meltdown.  You have an electrical problem, and if not troubleshot and
found correctly, you may find yourself traveling down the road with a lap
full of fire, or a face full of airbag.
